POLITICAL MARKETING   CASE STUDIES   PORTFOLIO
Bill Greene for Congress

Background

Bill Greene entered a special election for Georgia’s 10th congressional district after Congressman Charlie Norwood passed away from cancer on February 13th, 2007.

A non-partisan special election was set by Secretary of State Karen Handel for June 19, 2007, with 6 Republicans, 3 Democrats, and 1 Libertarian, qualifying to appear on the ballot. The district is historically conservative and traditionally votes Republican. To win outright a candidate needed a majority of the vote, or the top two votes getters would head to a runoff four weeks later.

From the beginning, Bill and State Senator Jim Whitehead were viewed as the top two candidates, regardless of party affiliation. Bill’s background as founder of RightMarch.com, a frequent political commentator and his conservative views, helped garner support from Congressman Tom Tancredo, Former Ambassador Alan Keyes and others.

Strategy

Bill’s goal was to position himself as the “true conservative” in the race and either win the special election outright or make it into the runoff.
